Wine region Brda is the area of low rounded winegrowing hills, scattered villages and little white churches in the western part of Slovenia bordering Italy. Mediterranean climate, rich soil, carefully planted vineyards - from all the Slovene winegrowing areas, Goriska Brda has had the highest "per hectare yield" of medals and awards from wine fairs and exhibition in the last two decades.
The second largest of winegrowing region in Southwestern Slovenia is Vipava Valley riched for plenty of fruit and rows of vine. Happy people give this area strong character maybe because burja (cold and dry wind) blows away all problems. “Burja” is very important for dried ham production, called “prsut”, another remarkableness of the region.
For many visitors, the attraction of Karst (Kras) area is underground: a variety of huge subterranean caves gouged in the soft limestone by deep rivers boasting inspiring stalagmites and stalactites, and other surprising formations. Karst is full of natural phenomenon like disappearing lakes and rivers, underground caves with canyons, wide diversity of fauna and flora. Delicious culinary like air-cured hams and wonderful wines also distinguish this landscape. Kras (Karst) is also the home of the angel white Lipizzaner Horses made famous by the Spanish Riding School of Vienna and karst shepherd dog.
The western edge of the Kras (Karst) area is bordering on the Slovenian Istria and Slovenian coastline at Adriatic Sea, long only 46 km.
For romantic souls: the Slovenian Istria offers idyllic view on Istrian villages with typical architecture, colorful vegetation and kind locals. Or you can indulge in romantic moments in one of the restaurants in Piran while enjoying watching sunset and listening to white waves conjuring relaxing melodies of Adriatic Sea.
For the active there are plenty of opportunities for sailing, swimming, windsurfing and hang-gliding, there are many tennis squares, minigolf and other sport’s facilities along the coastline.
For the people desirous of parties, you will find Portoroz (Port of Roses) perfect for action. Many hotels, restaurants, shops, bars and restaurants with all kind of music and casino offer you numerous opportunities to spend an incredible time.
