Northwestern Slovenia is the area covered mostly with Alps: Julian Alps and Kamnisko-Savinjske Alps. Julian Alps cover a surface area of around 4400 square km. There are approximately 150 mountains over 2000 meters high above the sea level in the Slovene Julian Alps; 25 of them are over 2500 meters. The Sava and the So?a are two major rivers rising in Julian Alps.

Within Julian Alps spreads the only Slovenian national park, which is one of the oldest in Europe. For the Slovenes, the Triglav National Park is a pride and supreme example of natural and cultural heritage and a refuge for restless spirits seeking harmony with themselves in harmony with nature. The highest point in Slovenia lies in the park the peak of Mt. Triglav has 2864 metres; the lowest point is in the Tolminka gorges (180 metres).

Deeply carved into the white limestone of the magnificent Julian Alps is the Soca Valley. It is a valley of wonderful colours, full of waterfalls, pools, ravines and canyons, with its own distinct flora and fauna. The emerald Soca River flows over white gravel and through this fairy-tale valley.
